Admissions & Financial Aid

Food industry management is a specialization in the Applied Economics and Managementmajor offered by the Department of Applied Economics and Management (AEM). Applied Economics and Management is the only general, undergraduate business major offered at Cornell University.

Incoming Freshmen top

Because AEM is located in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), incoming freshmen must apply to CALS for admission. Visit Freshman Admissions for detailed information on how to apply, requirements for admission, selection criteria, and the timetable for admission.

Transfer Students top

Students may also transfer into the food industry management specialization. Transfer students are admitted either as:

  • External transfers: students from other universities
  • Intrauniversity transfers: students from other colleges at Cornell University
  • Intracollege transfers: students from other departments in CALS

External and intrauniversity transfers must apply for admission through the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Visit Transfer Admissions for information on how to transfer, preparatory coursework for admission, and the timetable for admissions.

Intracollege transfers are admitted by the Department of Applied Economics and Management. For more information on intracollege transfers, please contact:

Financial Aid top

Cornell University recognizes that an outstanding learning environment can best be achieved by attracting a diverse student body. For that reason, the university has developed financial aid policies that help every outstanding student afford a Cornell education.

First, Cornell follows a needs-blind admissions policy. In other words, the university will evaluate your application without considering whether you will apply for financial aid. And second, all financial aid at Cornell is based on a family's demonstrated need.

For details on Cornell's financial aid options, visit Undergraduate Admissions.

Scholarships, Awards, & Prizes top

Several generous companies, associations, alumni, and friends fund scholarships, awards, and prizes specifically to help food industry management students finance their education. Scholarships are available to students who have received a financial aid package from Cornell University. Awards and prizes may be given to any student, regardless of financial need.

Scholarships, awards, and prizes are awarded based on faculty nominations rather than a student application process. Dollar amounts vary.
