Teaching: Undergraduate

Students in Cornell's Undergraduate Business Program, located in the Department of Applied Economics and Management, can specialize in food industry management to prepare for a career in one of the world's largest and most dynamic industries.

Students acquire general business skills in marketing, finance, management, and accounting. They also take specialized courses from award-winning faculty in food merchandising, global marketing strategy, and food industry management. In addition, students have access to Cornell's more than 4,000 courses in areas as diverse as psychology, food science, international studies, and communication.

Curriculum

Students must meet the general education requirements of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, as well as the food industry management graduation requirements . Together with a faculty advisor, students develop a course schedule that is tailored to their special interests and career goals. Courses are often taken in the following order:

  • Freshmen/Sophomores:General requirements and introductory business courses
  • Juniors:Core business and food industry courses
  • Seniors:Management electives and free electives

Career Opportunities

Graduates find themselves in great demand from a wide range of companies in the food industry. Some of the largest and most respected businesses from Fortune 500 to entrepreneurs and non-for-profits recruit heavily at Cornell. Starting salaries, on average, are significantly higher than those available to graduates in many other majors.
